Subtract

Quick Reference to Scripting Command
a=SUBTRACT(MODE)
Items in CAPS are 0/1 switches or switches with more options than 0/1.

Operation Example (left-middle=right)

The Subtract operation will subtract the source image from the action image. The entire source will be scaled and subtracted from the action image regardless of the area select. If the area select is too small or a non-symmetric shape, the source will be clipped at the edges of the area select.

Subtract is an image operation that has many interesting uses. For instance, satellite photographs can be taken of the same region a day apart, the images aligned so that they overlay each other perfectly, and then subtracted. The result (the difference in the very literal sense) is what has changed from day one to day two. In this way, intellegence analysts can quickly tell if something has changed in a missile field, for instance, without having to go over the image pixel by pixel.

Subtract Controls

Trends

You will notice that all of the controls have a Trend button next to them. The trend button allows you to set that variable over a set of frames. Each frame of the animation can be thought of as a slice of time. The trends allow you to alter some, all, or none of the variables for a particular time slice. You will notice that the trend graphs have equidistantly spaced vertical lines. Each of these lines represents a frame in the animation. The number of frames can be altered using the Sequence controls... in the Timeline pull down menu. Animation lengths of 100 - 999 frames will be represented with a vertical bar being 10 frames, and animation length greater than 1000 frames will have a vertical bar for every 100 frames. Signed; On Gray

This control, when selected, will allow for both positive and negative values based on a 0 value at Luma 128. This means that any negative brightness values will be made darker, and any positive brightness values will be brighter. If this control is not selected, then all negative brightness values will be made positive.
